C.V Notes Guidance to Candidates

The aim is to produce a C.V., which has impact, is factual and brief. It must paint an attractive but accurate portrait of your abilities, achievements and interests. You must also ensure that it relates to and covers the areas required by the employer in terms of background and experience.

Your C.V. should be: NEAT - The very best standard you can achieve in content and layout - always type on good quality paper. Only to be hand written when specifically requested. SHORT - should not exceed two pages of A4 paper. POSITIVE - more than giving a list of responsibilities - expands on those areas where your endeavours have shown positive improvements, cost savings etc.

Always bear in mind the required Candidate profile of the prospective employer. Every C.V. must include information such as: Full Name Address Telephone number, Home, Work (if you can be contacted,) Mobile.

CAREER HISTORY Commence with your last job and then go backwards in chronological order: A) Name of Organisation B) Job Title C) Outline responsibilities Personnel controlled (numbers & type) Main achievements - highlight the areas where you have made positive contributions to the organisation. If relevant, include business facts such as - Profits, Turnover, Performance etc. (be careful not to give away any information that might be considered confidential by your current employer).

Remember that the prospective employer will be interested in your most recent position, of which you should give full information, highlighting those areas that are of particular relevance to the prospective appointment. If you are able to go back more than 10 years, simply list the jobs by Organisation and Job title, and only highlight those areas you think would be relevant. Don't give reasons for leaving, as this can be explained at interview.

EDUCATION In reverse chronological order. Education / Schools / Colleges / Universities attended - qualifications

PERSONAL Date of Birth Marital Status Number of dependent children Hobbies - be careful as you need to strike a balance between the picture of someone whose leisure activities are so numerous and absorbing that they leave no time for work, against someone with no outside interests. Sporting activities showing an active and healthy lifestyle are usually well received.

COVERING LETTERS Covering letters are also important. Once again they should be brief and to the point - but they do give the opportunity for you to tailor your experience and skills to the job opportunity, and highlight any areas you feel are particularly relevant.

APPLICATION FORMS The application form provides the information particularly required by the employer, and will in certain areas duplicate the information contained within your C.V. so ensure that the two documents correlate . Apart from Personal information, you will also be asked to list former positions, possibly salary levels and also the salary level you expect. You should discuss this with your iNTECH Recruitment advisor before completion.

Application forms usually have limited space, so it is not easy to give all the information required. Always copy the form and practice completing the application before committing yourself to the original form. ".

REMEMBER Read carefully everything you have written; Ensure there are no spelling errors - give to a friend to check. If hand written and your script is difficult to read - then print neatly.

"DON'T GIVE A SECRETARY OR JUNIOR WHO MAY BE DOING THE INITIAL SIFTING, ANY REASON TO REJECT". "Make sure you retain copies of all c.v.'s, letters and application forms
