Summary: Are you an experienced Income Officer / Rent Officer finding that you are not using all your skills? Do you miss the days when you were allowed to work with your tenants to help them sustain their tenancies, even dealing with external agencies if it would help? Do you love going to court, knowing that you have not just fulfilled the letter of the pre-court protocol, but that you have done all you can to help your tenant, so that eviction is morally the right thing to do? This role is for you.
Description: My client is a small, but growing housing associations, which maintains its own portfolio of homes at affordable rents, as well as managing properties on behalf of other, smaller associations and charities.
You will be joining a tight-knit team within a very supportive environment, where everybody genuinely shares in the mission of the organisation to enable lower and middle-income people to access local homes in areas where they would normally be excluded from the housing market.
Your role as Income Officer will be to maximise income by effectively and efficiently managing arrears recovery work for rent, service charge and other income.
Your focus for achieving this will be supporting tenants by helping them get access to debt management and benefits advice services. You will be helping tenants Housing Benefit and Universal Credit by supporting them through the claims process when they need your help and dealing with Housing Benefit backdated payments on their behalf.
While your ideal outcome will always be a successfully maintained tenancy, when it is appropriate, you will also be responsible for taking enforcement action from preparing and organising the serving of notices to preparing court papers and representing the organisation in court.
Because of the size of the organisation you may have the opportunity to be involved in projects beyond the scope of pure income recovery, further enhancing your experience and skills.
This is a tremendous opportunity either for someone who wants to make full use of their extensive income recovery skills for the benefit of tenants and a caring organisation, or for someone who wants to broaden their skills with a view to building their career to senior management in the future.
